I remember last semester from my MCOM 72, Professor Rucker was telling us about "info snacking." Info snacking is basically reading a whole bunch of different news and information, but not fully reading it to get an understanding. For example you just see that President Bush was at a summit in some country, but don't read in to where or why he was there.
With the explosion of blogs and user created websites, web 2.0 stuff, there are so many places to go to find information. Tools such as digg and RSS grab blog posts and news stories from websites you set it to. So everyday you go to the RSS feed and just look at the headlines of the RSS feeds and leave it at that.
Another point I wanted make was what I noticed making the multimedia project, I had to go to some many different websites like I was picking off a food menu to make the project. You make a blog with wordpress, make another account to upload photos with flickr, another to upload videos with youtube, another to upload podcasts, etc., etc. I'm not asking for one monetized site that can do all these things, but there doesn't need to be so many different sites that do the same thing like uploading photos.
Another problem I would have with web 2.0 stuff is just the plethora of web services to constantly keep linked up to and comment on with friends, family, and job contacts. You have to update your myspace and facebook with your friends and update your linkedin for job contacts. For blogs you have to constantly go from blog site to blog site and comment on people's blogs.
I'm sure there are services that do all the gripes I have, but if I have to register for another website I'm go crazy.

Reflective Blog Post #3 - Assessing the Project
Well the project is done and I presented it to the class yesterday. Overall, the project went well with a few hiccups that I alluded to in my second reflective blog post, mainly the flickr and wordpress issue. I eventually figured out that wordpress took out iframe and other embedding tools for security issues, so flickr was no mas. I resolved the issue by just posting the flickr slideshow in blogger, which worked first try, and linked it on my wordpress multimedia project web page. I learned how to use flickr a lot. I don't own a digital camera so I really never had to bother learning a website to upload photos on. I also just learned some new html code from searching for hours on how to embed a flickr slideshow in a web page or blog. I don't think I unlearned anything.
The project did turn out as a I expected, although I did plan on putting in videos but I would of had to edit them on crappy windows media player and upload to youtube. You told me the videos had to be made by me, but.... a lot of the videos from other people's project were just ripped off youtube from someone else. I thought we couldn't do that because we didn't "make it."
I enjoyed making the photoshopped headers for each of the top 5 games and I also enjoyed listening to old tunes from these games that I have such love for to upload on podomatic. Nothing I like least, have to think positive! I was best at html coding after so much research...
I would recommend other students to do this project because it puts together every thing you learned in the semester together in cohesion.

Reflective Blog Post #2 - Checking in
So for an update on my project, in short, it is going pretty good with a few bumps. I have my wordpress blog up and running and I have created extra pages using the wordpress pages feature. I learned quickly on the differences between blogger, which I use for my class blog, and wordpress.
I finished five blog post headers for my retro top 5 Nintendo 64 games using Photoshop. Now I'm adding written pieces to go along with each header explaining each game in the top 5.
I didn't know where to find the html code to get a Flickr slideshow on a blog but with a quick Google search I found the code along with instructions. Although I have one problem, Flickr slideshow and wordpress don't like each other. I can easily get a slideshow to work on blogger, but something is not clicking with wordpress. Other people have been having the same problem, so I am trying to find a way to get it to work.
I still have yet to get my podcast on Podomatic, I will try to get it on soon and pray it works on a wordpress blog.

Weekly Blog Post #11 GTA IV is the KING
Last semester on this very blog, I did a blog post about the record breaking launch of the video game, Halo 3. Well, Halo 3's records have been shattered already by the recently released Grand Theft Auto IV (GTA IV). GTA IV has surpassed the the all-time entertainment sales records for one day and one week sales. The game sold more than 6 million copies amassing over $500 million in the first week.
No movie or music release is No. 1, a video game is. Coincidence? I think not.
Again, clearly video games are becoming more and more noticed by the mainstream media. GTA IV even took the rounds on the late night talks with pretty much every late night host including some news or joke about GTA IV. On the latest Saturday Night Live (SNL), they did a skit with the two main protagonists.
